When it comes to choosing a mattress, most people focus on what’s inside—natural latex, memory foam, innersprings—but they often overlook a crucial element: the mattress ticking. Ticking is the outer fabric used to cover your mattress, and YES, it plays a significant role in the comfort, performance, and durability of your sleep surface.

This is especially true for natural latex mattresses, where the ticking can either enhance or hinder the benefits of the latex. Natural latex rubber is prized for its extraordinary combination of softness and support, but to fully experience these qualities, the ticking needs to complement, not compromise, the latex’s unique properties.

The Best Ticking for Latex Mattresses

After years of research and testing, we discovered that the best fabric to cover latex is a stretch-knit organic cotton. Why? Because it moves with the latex, allowing it to perform at its peak. Stretch-knit organic cotton enhances the latex’s natural resilience, providing an unrivaled balance of pressure relief, support, and comfort.

At CozyPure®, we evaluated hundreds of fabric swatches from mills across the country before developing our exclusive 3-layer CozyPure® knit ticking. Made with Skal-certified organic cotton, our ticking features:

  • A stretch-knit outer layer: Ensures flexibility and comfort.
  • Yarn cushioning inside: Adds a touch of softness and durability.
  • Three-layer construction: Designed to move with the latex, optimizing its natural benefits.

Why We Avoid Other Fabrics

Not all ticking is created equal. Here’s why we avoid common materials that don’t meet our standards:

  • Canvas (Muslin and Duck):
While durable, canvas is stiff and inflexible, which prevents you from feeling the full benefits of latex. It’s simply not the right choice for a material as dynamic as natural latex. We also tested brushed canvas for softness, but it failed our “rub” test—after a few vigorous rubs, the fabric became thin and weak, revealing it wouldn’t stand the test of time.
  • Damask and Jacquard:
Beautiful and luxurious, these fabrics work well for traditional mattresses with less movement, but they aren’t ideal for latex. Latex moves and flexes as you sleep, so a fabric that can stretch and move with it—like a stretch-knit cotton—is a much better choice. However, we may incorporate damask and jacquard into future mattresses that include other components.
  • Cheap Ticking:
If you’re tempted by the price of a mattress with basic, synthetic ticking, remember that cheap ticking comes at a cost. Synthetic fabrics trap heat, leaving you feeling clammy and uncomfortable, especially on warm nights. Additionally, these materials do nothing to enhance the feel of your mattress, and they degrade faster than natural fibers.

The CozyPure® Difference

At CozyPure®, we believe in creating mattresses that deliver true comfort, quality, and sustainability. That’s why we’ve spared no effort in designing our organic cotton ticking to pair perfectly with our natural latex mattresses. The result is a sleep experience that’s breathable, flexible, and free of harmful chemicals—because you deserve the best.

When you invest in a CozyPure® mattress, you’re not just buying a sleep surface. You’re investing in a healthier, more restorative night’s sleep. Our commitment to quality materials ensures you get the most out of your mattress for years to come.

Cheap Sleep or Sleep Well?

It’s tempting to opt for a cheaper mattress with basic ticking to save money upfront, but as the saying goes, “You get what you pay for.” Cheap ticking may lower the price, but it won’t enhance your comfort or support—and it certainly won’t last.

If you want to invest in better sleep, consider ticking made with beautiful, natural fibers that allow your mattress to perform at its best. A high-quality ticking, like our stretch-knit organic cotton, amplifies the benefits of your mattress, providing a cooler, more comfortable sleep environment.

Sleep Well with CozyPure®

At CozyPure®, we’ve done the work to ensure that every detail of your mattress contributes to your comfort. From the latex core to the ticking on the outside, every component is thoughtfully chosen and rigorously tested.

Don’t settle for “cheap sleep.” Invest in the kind of comfort and quality that will help you sleep well for years to come.
