By 1954, researchers discovered latex’s exceptional anti-bacterial properties. Dr. Theo Lammers from the Institute of Hygiene at Gutenburg University found latex foam to be the ideal hygienic material for mattresses—superior to all others. It was not only supportive and durable but also naturally resistant to bacteria, allergens, and dust mites.
Ideal for Asthma and Respiratory Disorders
Further studies in 1956 at the Asthma Clinic by Drs. Fuchs and Gronemeyer confirmed latex foam’s health benefits. They concluded that its anti-bacterial, fungus-resistant, and mite-resistant properties make it an excellent choice for individuals with asthma or respiratory sensitivities.
Despite its superiority, latex mattresses became less common over the years due to their premium cost, as manufacturers and consumers turned to synthetic materials and petroleum foams.

Transparency Matters
The growing popularity of latex mattresses has also led to deceptive marketing. Many so-called “latex mattresses” only include a thin layer of latex over foam or innerspring coils. Others labeled as “natural” may only contain a fraction of natural latex. Even “organic cotton” fabrics are often blended with synthetic polyester.

How Our Natural Latex Rubber is Made
Rubber tapping is an eco-friendly process where an incision is made in the bark of a rubber tree, allowing latex sap to drip into a collecting cup. Harvesting is done during the cooler hours of the day to maximize yield, and the process doesn’t harm the tree.
Each rubber tree produces about one tablespoon of latex sap daily. To craft a single Queen-size latex core, the daily output of 2,500 trees across 12 acres of plantation is needed—sustainably supporting eight rubber tappers. These trees also play a vital role in the environment, removing 143 metric tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere annually.
Once harvested, the latex sap is whipped, baked, and transformed into a thick, solid core that lasts for decades. Natural latex rubber is firm, resilient, and breathable—offering unmatched comfort, durability, and support without any harmful chemicals.
